As the UTM party convenes for its highly anticipated 2024 delegates convention at the Chisanga Complex, presidential aspirant Dr. Mathews Chinombo Mtumbuka has unveiled his vision for the party and the nation, aiming to embody the legacy of late party president Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima.

With voting underway to elect the new party leadership, Mtumbuka, a youthful leader with a deep understanding of the challenges facing Malawians, seeks to create an inclusive UTM that prioritizes the needs of all citizens. “I believe in a party that is for everybody. My mission is to unite us and ensure that the voices of the youth and marginalized communities are amplified in our political discourse,” he stated passionately during his campaign launch.

Dr. Mtumbuka, who has a background in economic development and agricultural reform, addressed the pressing issues of economic hardship and agricultural challenges that many Malawians face. “We can turn around the economic difficulties by establishing a factory in every district. This will not only help in import and export but also significantly create job opportunities,” he explained. “Through proper investment in local industries, we can alleviate poverty and empower communities.”

The convention is particularly significant as it will not only determine who leads the UTM into the upcoming elections but will also fill various key positions within the party. Mtumbuka’s approach promises to leverage the potential of Malawi’s youth, whom he believes are crucial to driving the nation’s development forward. “By creating businesses and encouraging entrepreneurship, we can foster a culture of innovation and self-sufficiency,” he added.

As the voting process continues, party delegates are weighing their options for leadership, with many looking towards Mtumbuka’s vision as a beacon of hope for the future of the UTM party and Malawi as a whole. The outcome of this convention is set to shape the political landscape of Malawi in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, with Mtumbuka positioned as a promising candidate advocating for progress and inclusion.
