Somalis shocked by Eid celebration scenes in the Al-Shabaab controlled areas.
Somali people are alarmed by Eid celebration pictures from al-Shabaab-controlled areas in southern Somalia, where minors as young as 8 years old paraded as military personnel with toy guns and masking their faces, imitating al-Shabaab militants.
This has raised concerns that coming generations in the al-Shabaab-held territories are being brainwashed and taught extremist ideology and will become the next al-Shabaab manpower.
Somalia is losing future generations not only to war and disasters but also to generations missing basic education and being equipped with dangerous ideology.
The implications of this indoctrination extend beyond immediate security concerns. As these children are exposed to violent rhetoric and militant behaviours , their capacity for critical thinking and empathy may diminish, leading to a cycle of violence that perpetuates the conflict in the region.
