Old Mutual Plc, a South African based insurer via its fund unit also known as African Infrastructure Investment Managers (“AIIM”), plans to acquire a majority stake in Grain Bulk Handlers which is based at Shimanzi, Mombasa. Old Mutual is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. AIIM develops and manages funds with allocation towards infrastructure, energy. AIIM has $2.8bn assets under management and 74 portfolio companies in 20 African countries. Old Mutual operates in DRC Congo, Kenya, Swaziland, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Bulkstream Ltd also known as Grain Bulk operates East Africa’s largest dry bulk terminal at the port of Mombasa and has inland terminals in Embakasi (Nairobi) Naivasha and Jinja (Uganda). Its got a head count of 1000 employee and with a capacity of 374,000 metric tons for grains, 120,000 metric tons for clinker, 65,000 metric tons for fertilizer and 70,000 metric tons for edible oils and 120,000metric tons for clinker regionally.
