John Rapando, journalist and founder of the Rapando Foundation, made a significant philanthropic impact in Musanda ward, Kakamega County, by donating beddings during Mashujaa Day celebrations. The foundation provided blankets and mattresses to more than 200 families, with a focus on supporting the elderly and vulnerable members of the community. The initiative aimed to improve living conditions for those in need, bringing much-needed comfort to recipients.
Founded in 2017, the Rapando Foundation strives to alleviate poverty and uplift society through various charitable activities. In addition to the Mashujaa Day donations, the foundation has actively supported education in the region. During the 2023/2024 academic year, it distributed over Ksh. 500,000 in bursaries to help children from underprivileged backgrounds access education. These efforts reflect Rapando’s commitment to fostering long-term positive change in his community.
Addressing the crowd during the donation event, Rapando emphasized his dedication to helping the needy and challenged local politicians to prioritize their constituents beyond election periods.
“I’m fulfilling the Bible by helping the lowly,” he said. “I urge sitting politicians to remember their electorates and not just lure them during campaigns only to vanish afterward.” He also pledged to continue supporting the community by providing food supplies during the upcoming Christmas season.
The donations were met with gratitude and joy from beneficiaries. Faith Ayombe, one of the recipients, expressed her appreciation, saying, “I have lived for long sleeping on mats and sacks, but today my life has changed with the new mattresses! Live long, Rapando.” Her statement highlighted the profound impact that the donation had on improving the quality of life for many families in Musanda ward.
